Government Scholarships from Czech Republic in Bachelor/Master Study Programmes

The Government of the Czech Republic offers a number of scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Assistance Programme in support of the study of foreign nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic

These so called Government Scholarships are designed to cover the standard length of study:

1. in Bachelor/Master study programmes plus one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (which is combined with other field-specific training). Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary school who can enrol only in study programmes in which they follow instruction in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to take entrance examinations at the respective institution of higher education. The scholarship award is conditional upon a successful passing of entrance examinations;
2. in follow-up Master study programmes or Doctoral study programmes. Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from Bachelor or Master study programmes, respectively, who enrol in study programmes with instruction in the English language.

Scholarship applications together with the required attachments are to be submitted to the appropriate Czech Embassy in the applicant`s country before the deadline set by the Embassy so that the applicants` dossiers reach the respective Czech authorities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport) by 15 January each year.

Students who, at the time of application, stay in the Czech Republic may submit the respective documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department for Development Co-operation, by 31 December of the preceding year at the latest.

Foreign nationals who have been granted permanent residence in the Czech Republic are not eligible to apply for Government scholarships.

A limited number of scholarships is offered to students from developing countries who file their applications with the respective National UNESCO Commissions. Applications sent directly to the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport will not be processed.

Prospective applicants are advised to address their inquiries concerning, among others, their eligibility and closing date for applications to the Czech Embassies in their countries.

Postdoctoral Fellows University of Texas Health Science at San Antonio

Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Rita Ghosh in the Department of Urology, School of Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, TX. The goals of the project include understanding the regulation of NADPH Quinone Oxidoreductase (NQO1) during prostate carcinogenesis and developing it as a target for chemoprevention of prostate cancer. Candidates with experience in molecular biology, tissue culture, genomic techniques as well as handling rodents are encouraged to apply.

Music Scholarships at Indiana University Southeast, USA (Rasmussen Awards)

Rasmussen Awards – Scholarship for International students who have minimum GPA is 2.5, USA

The Rasmussen Awards are funded by an endowment given to Indiana University Southeast by Mrs. Naomi K. Rasmussen of New Albany, Indiana. The Indiana University Foundation holds the fund in trust, and a percentage of the fund’s earnings are awarded annually to exceptional students in the performing arts.

Purpose of the Awards: The Rasmussen Awards are intended to strengthen and support the performing arts at Indiana University Southeast by offering talented students monetary assistance for full participation in musical, theatrical, or dance performing groups.

Award Amounts: Award amounts vary with each student. Students who qualify will be awarded funds which may cover tuition and fees for up to 30 credit hours per academic year. The amount of the award is credited to the student’s account when fees are calculated during the registration periods. The IUS Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid supervises these student award accounts. Awards are given on a year-to-year basis. A student in good standing who has fulfilled previous award obligations may apply each year for the award. Please be aware, however, that these awards are competitive.

Qualifications Rasmussen Awards in Music are made with consideration to the following criteria:

• the quality of the audition performance
• the student’s record of experience and success in musical performance
• the student’s academic record (a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required)
• letters of recommendation from the student’s primary instructor(s)
• the potential for the applicant to contribute to the performing group(s)

Obligations: Students receiving Rasmussen Awards will be expected to participate fully in at least one appropriate IU Southeast performing group. A vocalist, for example, will be expected participate in Concert Choir or The IU Southeast Choral Arts Society. An oboist will be expected to participate in Concert Band or Orchestra. A pianist will be expected to participate in a chamber ensemble and/or to accompany student ensembles or performers. The level and area of participation will be determined by the award committee and be specified in the award letter. In cases where the recipient has not fulfilled the prescribed obligations of the award, the Award Committee reserves the right to rescind the full amount of the award.
